Google has launched its latest service called "Google Voice," which is a tool that will help users manage voice communication more efficiently, according to the Google blog post announcing its release.

Apparently, the software "converts" voicemail into text messages or Emails so that users can read them - instead of listening. Google Voice makes use of technology from Grand Central Communications - a firm that it acquired back in 2007. The service is currently limited to users of Grand Central in the US. For US users, Google Voice gives an option to use a single Google number that can route incoming calls to home, office, and other numbers.

The speech- to- text functionality used by Google Voice enables voice mails to be converted to Emails or text messages, which can then be read. Of course, the transcription might not be perfect - but seems to do a good job from what little we have seen in the video that Google has posted on its blog.

The video below should be helpful in figuring out how this works.

The transcription uses the technology developed by Google for its Goog-411 service in the US, and as expected, will only be available to select consumers in the US. Head to the Google Voice home page for more.
