Senior Corporate VP hints a possibility of it at a recent press event
By the looks of it, by the end of the year, almost every smart phone manufacturer would end up with its own App Store.
If it was RIM's turn just last week to introduce its own App Store for BlackBerry phones, Taiwanese major Acer has announced that it would be joining the App Store fray very soon for its range of smartphones.
Acer's senior corporate vice president Aymar de Lencquesaing has hinted at the possibility in a recent London press event. He said that the company "is examining the viability of an app store". Acer had launched its first batch of phones at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2009. The devices to be launched included the WM 6.1-based Acer M900, F900, X960 and DX900. Acer is also set to launch another set of devices based on Windows Mobile 6.5 - the F1, L1, C1 and E1.
It remains to be seen how Acer's own app store compares with that of Microsoft's SkyMarket.
