    XFX GeForce GTX285 [Review]

Roydon Cerejo, Mar 09, 2009 1823 hrs IST

Another GTX285 that tries to tempt us with a very good bundle and performance

Performance, modest power consumption, good software bundle

Did not overclock at all, doesn't offer much value for money

After Zotac and Asus, we have XFX who joins the ranks of the manufacturers whose GTX285 cards were reviewed in our labs. The card looks stunning as usual, dressed in typical XFX green and black. The card that we ll be reviewing is the standard version, which comes with a core speed of 648MHz and a memory speed of 2480MHz. No significant differences in terms of cooling or heatsink design as compared to the rest of the cards we tested, so it should give me similar scores, but you never know.

It's nice to see XFX bundling a game along with their cards, and this time it's FarCry 2, which seems like a perfect game to show off the power of the card. Now, we all know that XFX is famous for its absurd pricing policy, but things are different this time around, a fact we ll explore later. First, the bundle, followed by some snapshots.

Bundle

  • Drivers
  • -S-video to component break-out box
  • -6 pin PCI-E to Molex adapter

The bundle seemed a little sparse since the DVI-to-VGA adapters are not present, but they will be present in the retail bundle.

This is the smallest box I've seen for a GTX285 thus far, which is good in a way, since it is easier to carry the card when you buy it. The card is secure in its foam wrappings, so it will be well protected at all times. Again, this is where XFX scores bonus points in the presentation of their products, which is always top notch.

At the top you have said "Did not overclock at all, doesn't offer much value for money" .... and then in the end you have said ... "I wouldn t say this is the best buy right now, but it's definitely up there when it comes to overall value." So I have a few questions ? a) where is "up there" ? b) How much value is your articles ? c) Are you on bhang (marijuana) during holi season ? ok ... waiting for your esteemed reply ...

no matter how powerful card you buy while playing highend games and maximum setting the game will lag.and who the hell is going to buy a card which cost is almost same of a whole pc

Nobody is going to buy all this stuff at two times their American prices. This overpricing is killing GPU sales in India. This card costs $540(converted) Thats more then $200 higher then the price of a GTX285 in the US. I'm sure that more people would by these cards if their prices were much closer to their US prices. at $350 = 17,500 these cards would make real sense. These greedy dealers are making us pay a unrealistic premium
