The Techtree Weekly Roundup is back! Lets take a quick peek at what kept us techies glued to our PC screens all of this week. This week was a mixed bag of sorts. With the hangover of one of major events having ended (Mobile World Congress) and the anticipation of another (CeBit) bulding up, there were the usual ups and downs. Anyway, here we go!


 


Nokia N97 Expected in June at Exorbitant Price


 


The week started with rather disturbing piece of news (We know the term "disturbing" might be too gross, but thats what we genuinely felt back then) about the probable N97 pricing when this one ends up in India. The phone was put on sale by Expansys, who seems to be making a living out of leaking prices and full specs of unreleased devices. The flagship N-Series devce was listed at a whopping price of $1075. That translates to a cool 55,000 in Indian Rupees. We really hope this is NOT true.


 


 


AMD Plans 32nm Processors in 2010


 


After Intel demonstrated its 32nm Westmere processors last month, AMD is back with some 32nm silicon fabrication technology update. AMD's CEO Dirk Meyer stated on Friday that the company intends to 'ramp up' 32nm processor production in mid-next year. AMD plans to start shipping 32nm processors by fourth quarter of 2010.


 


iPhone? Whats That? -- Ballmer


 


Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer seems unimpressed with all the hype surrounding the iPhone. In his latest take on the current state of the smartphone market, he suggested that the iPhone does not have a market potential that is comparable to Windows Mobile or even Google's Android for that matter. Well, well. Thats some news! We've been dying to know what the Microsoft chief thought about the iPhone and Apple in general-- and boy, he did not disappoint us!


 


China crash-lands probe on to the Moon


 


China and India seems to be in a little space race right now doesn't it? After India's Chandrayaan made headlines earlier this year, its time for China to hog the limelight. It all started with the "forced" crashlanding of its lunar probe; the Chang'e I on to the moons surface. The landing will serve as a dress rehearsal for forthcoming Chinese missions to the moon. The country also plans to send a Taikonaut (Thats what Chinese spacemen are called!) to the moon by 2020.


 



 


 


 


Sony Intros World's First 24x DVD Burner


 


Sony has launched a new high-end DVD burner, AD-7240S, and boasts that it is the world's first with 24x writing speed. The high-speed drive is priced at a cool Rs. 1500, and features Auto Strategy Technology that aids in achieving 24x burning speed. The DVD burner is being retailed through Rashi Peripherals.


 


Sri Lanka Cricket Team Attack: Web Abuzz with News



March 3 turned out to be a black day for Cricket lovers across the globe when a bunch of brazen individuals targeted the Sri-Lankan Cricket team on a tour to Pakistan. The dastardly act kept web users on their toes with the topic becoming a top Twitter trend and on News websites which started beaming Live pictures of the attack.


 



 


 


 


Apple Brings 2.66GHz MacBook Pro, Larger SSDs 


 


Apple has added the new 15-inch unibody MacBook Pro equipped with a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 6MB L2 cache. This replaces the standard 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor in the 15-inch MacBook Pro model. Apple also offers an option of upgrading to a 2.93GHz CPU at an additional charge of $300 (Rs. 15,000 approx.).


This 2.66GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro supports  up to 4GB DDR3 1066GHz SDRAM. With regards to graphics, the new 2.66GHz MacBook Pro has Nvidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and a Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT GPU with a total of 512MB GDDR3 of video memory.


 


Apple Refreshes Mac Line-up


 


Apple surprised everyone with a slew of product refreshments much ahead of its annual product update cycle. May be it was Apple's team effort to prove their prowess in the absence of their boss Steve Jobs. ASUS Reveals Eee 1008HA, Light and White


 


ASUS has revealed details about its forthcoming Eee Netbook christened the Eee 1008A - a slim and lightweight Netbook. The device is reportedly 1-inch thick and weighs just 1.1Kg-making it a featherweight-even amongst netbooks. As of now, what we know is that this will come bundled with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Wimax capability. The processor will most likely be the Atom 280.


 


Windows Vista SP2 RC Available for Download


 


Microsoft quietly released Windows Vista Service Pack 2 publicly for download through their TechNet website. Users can directly download the installer 'without' logging into the website like they had to do for Windows 7 Beta download. Windows Vista SP 2 is available in five languages English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish in a stand alone installer.


 


BlackBerry App Store Christened App World


 


So, we finally know what RIM's App Store will be known as. The BlackBerry manufacturer has christened its forthcoming Application Store, the "App World". Very imaginative!


 


HTC 2009 Line-up: More Details Revealed


 


If the images came first, its time for the specs of forthcoming HTC handsets to be "leaked". We now have an inkling of what to expect from the likes of the HTC Firestone, Lolite, Toth and the Twin.
