Says iPhone does not have a market potential like Windows Mobile
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer seems unimpressed with all the hype surrounding the iPhone. In his latest take on the current state of the smartphone market, he suggested that the iPhone does not have a market potential that is comparable to Windows Mobile or even Google's Android for that matter.
While he accepts the fact the Apple has tickled the consumer market, he doesn't seems to ignore the fact that Apple has managed to ship almost 4.7 million iPhones as against the 4 million Windows Mobile laden devices shipped. Although Nokia still leads the smartphone arena with its massive 42 percent lead, Apple has managed to clock dramatic growth in the short span it has been in this arena. This is not the first time Ballmer targeted the Phone. Back in October 2008, he had given a word of advice to Apple to separate the hardware and the Software part of the iPhone.
Microsoft, not withstanding the stagnant growth in the smartphone OS sector, seems to be in an aggressive mode and is reportedly designing a brand new UI for its upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 release. Then there is the Microsoft Stores that will see the light of the day later this year.
