The Feb. 24 Gmail blackout that lasted a few hours sure irritated a bunch of us. More so for those who pay for a better version of the service.
Perhaps that's why, in order to ensure that the dark clouds of bad publicity garner the company, Google has declared 15 days of free service to businesses, government agencies and other subscribers who pay for an expanded version of the product and were affected by the service breakdown.
Along with the free Gmail for the common people, Google sells a more sophisticated version of Gmail as part of a software bundle that costs $50 (Rs. 2,519) annually, per user.
So, what was the reason behind the crash?
Google said that during a routine maintenance of one of its European data centres, it had directed the traffic to other servers, as reported by The Economic Times. However, the company was simultaneously trying a new code that "tries to keep data geographically close to its owner causing another data centre in Europe to become overloaded. This caused cascading problems from one data centre to another", said Gmail site reliability manager Acacio Cruz on early Wednesday morning.
Why fools waste time and money on unreliable CRAP like Gmail. Try hotmail for free with excellent features and free the world over with incvreasing storage.
So much for so called google - cant even maintain a simple service like GMAIL And idiots who pay for this CRAP service.
I guess your life is limited to microsoft and its dust bin hotmail. Lured by 25Gb online storage which takes zillions of seconds to upload any file. DOn't be a frog but be crocodile of this vast internet sea. I know you are a small windows user who love hotmail.
The only reason this is such big news, is because it is unheard of. This has been the first and only time gmail hasn't been available. If hotmail crashed(and I'm sure it does - often), nobody would notice. The true idiots of the world who had gotten used to waiting forever for something to open would just assume its taking a little bit longer than usual.
MR/Mrs. Kutts is a damn Bill Gates Microsoft supporter. That hotmail is a Crap. I've been using Gmail for years. Its really awesome. I dont mind if it was unavailable for some time. That Bill Gates will he give any service like this for free. He knows only to snatch money.
I cannot load the standard version of gmail on Firefox. I keep getting a balnk page and directed to the html version. I want my old standard version back
it's 1034am Pacific time, March 1st and I can get to my igoogle gmail, but I am unable to access attached documents. ARGH! I have a project due tomorrow!
Well it came back briefly, in very curious form, ad then disappeared again, then came back while I was at work and now once again I have no access to my emails at either of my gmail addresses
Why would many users turn to Gmail even though they have registered with other email providers? The simple reason is they trust Google and its products.
Outage for sometime should not be a big issue. After all, these things are man made. Life should not become too mechanical. What if Gmail was working and there was a power outage or communication network outages?
I Guess, It is because they were installing a new enhancement - I can see that they have deployed a new enhancement - which shows the progress bar for file upload - This could be one of the reason - possibly!
