Asus has launched many Eee PC netbooks running Windows and Linux systems and now it plans to roll out low-cost netbooks with Google's Android operating system.

Samsun Hu, head of Eee PC business, said that Asus has allocated engineers for the development of Android-based Netbooks, reports Bloomberg. However, it's uncertain whether Asus will commercially launch the Android-based netbook, as the product is still under development.

Asus aims to finish the project before the end of the year. Asus already offers Windows and Linux based Eee PCs, but in India it has rolled out Eee PC netbooks with Windows XP pre-installed.

Microsoft's Windows XP runs on almost 80-90 % of the netbooks available today. Linux option is mostly optional and now with many OEMs choosing Android as optional operating system, things might get interesting.

With Windows and Linux found on netbooks, the upcoming operating systems Android and Microsoft's Windows 7 will have some competition among themselves.
