Capable of processing 20 megapixel images smoothly
Texas Instruments, the famed maker of smartphone processors has introduced its latest OMAP 4 range of processors at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Texas Instruments has assured that the platform is capable of delivering a rich multimedia-rich user experience to the user and greater support for high definition content such as 1080p video record and playback. The processor is capable of processing 20 megapixel images smoothly.
The new processor uses a dual core, ARM Cortex A9 MPCore SMP based architecture; and for faster performance, incorporates parallel processing abilities. The company also claims the processor will enable faster web browsing with 10x faster Web page loading times.
The OMAP 4 is capable of running at speeds up to 1GHz and will support the Android Platform, LiMo Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile. The chips will be seen on some devices in the second half of 2009, although final production versions will be out only by mid 2010.
