All phones launched under the Tempo series and run on Windows Mobile
Acer finally made its much awaited devices official at the ongoing Mobile World Congress.
The company known for its foothold in the notebook and computer peripherals business seems keen in gaining a sizable share of the very competitive mobile phone market. The company has launched its range of smartphones under the "Tempo" series, with all the phones running Windows Mobile. Acer has also hinted at possibilities of incorporating other OS in its future handsets but we have no information as to when these will see the light of the day.
Here's a breakdown of the new devices. M900
At the top end is the M900, which features a QWERTY keyboard, 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen and an embedded fingerprint scanner. The smartphone also includes GPS, HSDPA support and a 5-megapixel camera. The 533 MHz Samsung S3C 6410 processor does the number crunching and is aided by an adequate 128 MB SDRAM, 256 MB flash memory.
F900
Next in line is the F900 that again carries the large 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen from the M900. However, you won't find the keyboard here! Touted to be a device optimized for web browsing, it comes without a keyboard. The device is optimized for web browsing and comes with Internet Explorer Mobile 6 with support for JavaScript and Adobe Flash Lite. It also comes with a widget-based home screen, GPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and a 3.2-megapixel camera. X960
The X960 is a mainstream, mid end Smartphone from Acer. It is said to be a very capable navigation device, thanks to its built-in GPS capabilities. The 2.8-inch screen is smaller than that of its well endowed siblings - but still packs in a punch.
DX900
The DX900 happens to be the world's first dual SIM smartphone. This will bring the much sought after, dual-number switching feature to smartphones. However, it is important to note that SIM one works on quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA frequencies, while SIM two is for the 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM bands only. These new phones will be available by March this year, while some devices are expected to be launched in April.
