Various phones have contributed their bit to make the mobile phone the gadget it is today. Let's pay homage to all those mobile phones that have made life easier for the user. The following is a list of phones that have made a significant difference in the evolution of the mobile phone.

Nokia Communicator (1998)

The Nokia Communicator changed the face of the mobile phone industry. It went from becoming a convergence device for business personnel to a style statement. The communicator with its form factor turned into a phone as well as a means of working on the move; limited in its features, it was a great device nonetheless. The E90 is the latest incarnation of the communicator. It's come a long way and is now capable of doing a lot more; it's almost equivalent to a tiny laptop.

Nokia 3310 (2000)

The Nokia 3310 is one of the most popular phones to hit the market. The phone has been in the market since 2000; production was discontinued a few years back. It was possible to get a new piece from dealers who had stocked large numbers of the handset until some years back. The phone created a revolution by itself; phones became accessible to the common people. It's one of the phones that brought the mobility factor into the industry; the results of which we can see today in the market penetration of mobiles worldwide.

Nokia 7650 (2002)

This is the first camera phone from Nokia; a measly one as compared to the 8MP camera phones available and the 12MP camera phones to come. The 7650 gave people the option to capture moments in time and save them. It didn't really start the camera phone trend or show how necessary the feature would become in a phone; it was more like a trailer of what was to be expected from a phone with an in-built camera.

Nokia 6610 (2002)

A cool phone that became a style statement, the 6610 is still being used by many as they love the phone. A simple interface was one feature that has hooked its users; the next would be a colorful and smooth-looking screen and the sleek design. The phone wasn't the most powerful of devices, but probably that's what must have charmed the users. A later version of the phone with a camera was the last of the Nokia 6610s before it went out of production.

Nokia 5110 & Ericsson768 or something like that with a single line display (not Sony Ericsson) ThHese phones started it all. How can you forget Panasonic, the first with a recording feature

This is a great topic but poor execution. It appears that this article has not been thought through or reviewed before publication. It doesn't seem to flow and misses out on key milestones in history. could you please rewrite this?

Philips,Motorola and Ericsson are the bigineres in 97/98,and in gray market alcatel, sony, bosche. Then came Nokia and other brands, I think the first mobile phone known to India is Philips Diga or (Diega)something like that.

"Landmark Mobile Phones" without the first mobile phone. Motorola MADE the "mobile phone" and you have put 100 word paragraph about it!!!! Heard of the DynaTAC????? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_DynaTAC You get a better article if you google "mobile phone"!!!!

This model hasn't tasted the market in India much but one should never forget the Nokia 5140 (2004) and its successor, the 5140i, which are unique and loaded with the most number of features. The 5140 is the world's first PTT handset and one with exclusive RFID and GPS capabilities besides many outdoor and sports functions. It is the most rugged phone though not coming with the cool and trendy looks or style of its fashionable contenders.

Nice. But you're missing the Ericsson R520 which was one of the most feature rich business phones - irda, bluetooth, gprs. It had awesome battery life - like its cousin - the T39, only in full-candy bar form factor. To say that it was most decidedly awesome, doesn't quite do it justice.

Hello Sir NO IMAGES FOR MOST OF THE YOU HAVE MENTIONED. Are you short of images? Just search in Internet OK. Don't publish unless you have proper details...

where is sony ericsson t68i???. At a point in time it was the only one (besides samsung truei) offering a colour screen and multimedia feature when other mobile fones did voice calls and SMS only.

even before nokia 3310, nokia and motorola were producing mobile phones...I do not remember the there name or no. but, if you remember those days when incoming calls were also charged... then u remember that a bulky phone from motorola and nokia each were popular and that was the model on which nokia 3310 developed later....
