The computer is developed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Forget MIT's $100 laptop, "cheap" netbooks, and other crude attempts at making the computer affordable. Here comes the mother of all low-cost computers.
At Rs. 500, the upcoming, yet to be named, nano computer is set to be the cheapest computing device ever. Designed for students, the Government is supposedly readying a prototype of the device to be showcased at Tirupati on February 3, 2009. India's Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh will reportedly unveil the device.
The nano computer has been jointly developed by the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), Chennai, and the IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Bangalore. The production of the device, however, has been handed over to private firms. It remains to be seen if this project manages to move past the "prototype" phase to actually end up in some assembly line.
I have seen the news in the daily papers too. This news reminds me of Ramar Pilli's petrol. How could technical analysts like TechTree publish such article without sufficient into and quite misleading photographs? You will not get even those 82 minimum required KeyTops for that price. What kind of sensation these people whant to create without giving any tecnical information? I call it Info-Spam.
Dont keep thing pending for too long or else it may trun out to be just like tata nano, haha ha!!!!!!!!!!! just a talk and never a reality. this a earnest request for GOI. so that i too can own one laptop in a life time.
Are u sure we would make it. i am an octogenarian interested in seeing india overtaking all others. will i see it in my life time and be able to get one!God bless us.
It sounds incredilous . As some else pointed out, the components need to build a lap top dont come nano size. But, you never know 'Necessity is the mother of all inventions'. Lets see .....
I want to buy it from wher can i get it......
i read it is going to be showcased first in tirupati why first at tirupati not first in metro city it get market boost in metro city

Impossible. Earlier also many such projects failed and remained in TV and newspapers. Pointing Device, Input Device, Display Screen, Storage and a processor cannot come such cheap. Arjun Singh as usual will get publicity benefit from it.
