Apple's MacBook White Refreshed

Apple has silently refreshed their 13-inch polycarbonate MacBook with Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics. Apple replaced the processor with a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a 1066MHz interface found in the new aluminum unibody MacBooks and also added a 1GB DDR2 667MHz RAM. The best part is that Apple is selling it at the same price $999 (approx. Rs. 48,000) with an option to upgrade storage with a 320GB HDD at $250 (approx. Rs. 12,000).
Apple has taken a strategic step to boost their MacBook sales by adding Nvidia's new 9400M chip to their 13-inch white polycarbonate Macbooks, called MacBook White. However, no improvement in battery life was observed.
The 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, which replaces the processor, has a 1066MHz front side bus interface. Apple has added a 1GB DDR2 667GHz RAM, which is a bit less in terms of capacity when compared to a 1066MHz DDR3 RAM. However, it makes sense since the Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip has 256MB DDR2 of shared memory.
The refreshed MacBook White also gets a FireWire 400 port, absent in the unibody MacBooks, and retains the Mini-DVI port instead of the Mini-DisplayPort found in unibody MacBooks. Bluetooth specifications are also upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1 standard, which is the standard used currently.
What remains unchanged is the polycarbonate body enclosure (of course), display, Mini-DVI port, 120GB 5400RPM HDD, and 8X SuperDrive. Storage can be upgraded to 160GB SATA at $50, 250GB SATA at $150, and 320GB SATA at $250 price points.
Since it has not been officially announced by Apple, it's uncertain whether Indian consumers will be able to buy the refreshed MacBook White. Apple India's site still shows the old configuration for the 13-inch MacBook White. Apple will surely earn some brownie points if it offers the new MacBook White at the existing MacBook White price, about Rs. 56,000.
