A disorder where the patient can write emails, go through the password formalities, and send mails - all this while sleeping!

Are you a proud Internet freak? Do chatting and emailing occupy a major part of your day? Then, here is a warning for you. You could suffer from the "Sleep Emailing" disorder.

We have all heard about walking and talking in sleep, but emailing involuntarily while you are actually sleeping? Doesn't this sound a bit too absurd to you? Not that absurd after all. This is because a recent article in the New York Times talks about a woman who not only composed messages, but also passed two separate levels of password security to reach the e-mail software and then sent those mails.

The report adds that this case of the woman, who is suffering from severe insomnia, will be the focus of an article that will appear in The Sleep Medicine journal and is prepared by Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, a neurologist at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Ohio, and two colleagues.

The patient, who was on drugs to cure insomnia, sent out three mails while she was asleep and did not recall sending them the next morning. All the mails had irregular capitalization and punctuation usage.

So how does one cure oneself of the sleep emailing disorder? Google has apps like "Email Addict," which lets you take a break from emailing and chatting by blocking the screen for fifteen minutes, making you invisible on chat. They also have a "Mail Goggles" apps that stops you from sending late night or weekend mails that you may later regret. Once activated, it will ask you to solve some simple math problems before you send emails.

To activate the feature, go to your Gmail account and click on Settings. Go to the Labs tab and look for these options and enable them.

Have you ever experienced something as bizarre as emailing while you are actually sleeping? Do you know anybody who does something similar? Let us know your comments and experiences in the section below.

Many sleep-drugs -if used over extended periods - do no longer facilitate sleep per se - they work like amnesiacs. It's what happens when you go for your colonoscopy. The answer is real sleep, and the dangers of having the arrogance to ignore nature's healing break from a dominating ( and often quite simple-minded) consciousness are huge and expensive. Insomnia is a wake-up call: You are doing something during waking hours that endangers you. Read: I Want to Sleep - Unlearning Insomnia, by Dr. Siegfried Haug
