Apple CEO Steve Jobs had recently shared a note citing the reason for his absence at the recent MacWorld Expo. He revealed that hormonal imbalance was the underlying cause of his decline in health. However, in another recent note shared with the Apple team, he says that his health-related issues were more complex than he had thought.

Here's a note sent to Apple employees and the press, which we reproduce from Ars Technica:

Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day-to-day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve

After this leave announcement went public, Apple's stock dipped by 7.07 percent in the after-hours of trading, as per Livemint's reports. Many analysts believe that now rumors about Jobs being on his deathbed will soon start spinning around on the web, while many believe that Steve Jobs won't return to Apple.

It's highly unlikely that he'll be present at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference that's usually scheduled in the first-second week of June. Rumours are floating around about Mac Mini and iMac updates from Apple. It would be interesting if Apple launches a new product and shows that it is not crippled by (Steve) Jobs absence.
