Airtel offers cheaper tariff, more value-added services, and better connectivity to attract existing and potential users
Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel has entered the Sri Lankan market to offer 2.5 and 3.5 generation (HSPA) services. The company is reported to be investing around $200 million for the operation.
With this, Airtel becomes the 5th telecom service provider in Sri Lanka. It will now be competing for subscribers against Dialog Telekom -- hogs 60 percent of the subscribers in SL - Mobitel, a unit of Sri Lanka Telecom, Tigo, part of Millicom International Cellular, and Hutchison Telecom.
Here's what Airtel promises to bring to the Sri Lankan market:
Removal of differences in peak and off peak call rates and within network and outside the network call rates (users in Sri Lanka till now didn't have a unified tariff for outgoing calls)
Unconditional free incoming calls to all customers
50% lower rates while on roaming, to India
State-of-the-art HSPA technology backed by world-class customer care
There are more than 6 million mobile users in Sri Lanka. Airtel hopes to attract a major chunk of these users and potential subscribers to use its services by offering cheaper tariff, more value-added services, and better connectivity.
