Vodafone Essar and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced that the BlackBerry Storm will be available exclusively for Vodafone customers in India from Jan. 15.

Vodafone will create more than 150 'experience zones' across the country in Vodafone Stores and Modern Trade Outlets to encourage customers to gain a hands-on experience of this smartphone.

Labeled as the world's first 'clickable' touchscreen, this product responds a lot like a physical keyboard and also supports single- and multi-touch, including gestures for intuitive and efficient application navigation. It comes in a stainless steel back and chrome frame. The SurePress touchscreen depresses slightly to aid in typing and navigation and to give users an experience they can actually feel.

The Storm's custom-built applications include:

  • Facebook
  • Windows Live Messenger
  • Google Talk
  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • Flickr Photo Uploader
The BlackBerry Storm also supports multi-tasking so that users can switch to different applications without exiting them.

Other features and functions include:
  • BlackBerry Storm has a 3.25-inch resolution colour display (480x360-pixels at 184 ppi).
  • 3.2 megapixel camera, with variable zoom, auto focus, and a flash.
  • 1 GB of onboard memory storage and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot, extendable up to 16 GB
  • A 3.5 mm stereo headset jack.
  • Support for Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP) and dedicated volume controls.
  • Light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight.
  • Accelerometer senses handset orientation and switches between portrait and landscape mode.
  • Removable and rechargeable 1400 mAh battery that provides approximately 6 hours of talk time on 3G networks and 15 days of standby time.
  • BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Professional Software and BlackBerry Enterprise Server support.
  • Preloaded DataViz Documents to Go to edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the handset.
  • Media player and an equalizer with 11 preset filters.

Pricing:
The BlackBerry Storm will be available across select Vodafone Stores in India at a current priced of Rs. 27,990.
