Earlier today Nokia finally launched the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handset. A first of its kind from Nokia, the XpressMusic 5800 is a touch-based device and what everyone wants to know is whether it's any better than the iPhone. Well, I don't think I'll be able to comment on that, as we still are to review the product. However, what I can tell is my initial experience with Nokia's first Touch-based handset, which is all about music.
At the reviewers briefing, we were each provided with a handset to experience the look and feel of the device. From online pics the phone looks slim and tall. However, in reality the phone is on the thicker side (felt like it could house a QWERTY keypad within) and is really tall. Nevertheless, the phone is pretty light for its size and thickness. The phone fits comfortably in one hand and you can use it easily without any fear of it slipping out of your palm. The back of the phone has a rubberized plastic finish. Also, the screen isn't too large to move your finger to the corner of the other side.
Next I powered up the device to get an experience of the latest Symbian OS offering. There is a lot you can access through the main screen shortcuts. You have choices for the Home Screen between Contacts, Basic, Default. The Contacts Home screen lets you have a max of four contacts on the screen denoted by pictures you tag those contacts with. Tapping the pics displays a list of previous interactions (calls, messages, e-mail) with that contact.
There are two other shortcuts that are visible in any Home Screen Theme; Contacts and Phone-pad. Then there are these invisible shortcuts which drop down. Tapping the battery meter provides you with two shortcuts; Connectivity Options (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Data) and an option to go to world clock. Tapping the date provides you with a drop down list of Ringing Profiles, Alarm, etc. So there is a lot you can access from the main screen.
I have this one, and it works good to me. The features are great, and could store my pictures and videos on its 8GB memory card.
Been using it for 2 years already, and still it is the best for me.
hey frazier...could u tell me whether the touch screen is responsive like the iphone or do u need to use the tips of the fingers and apply pressure...the iphone has great response to touch...how would u rate the 5800 on this?? there are lot of contrasting views on the net on this
I was thinking of buying the 5800 xpressmusic and after first hand experience with the same I decided to go with the iphone. I just bought it last week and man iphone is an awesome experience. 5800 felt likle shit in hands, sad looks and very thick. The touch also being resistive based needed lot more pressure and at times aI had to press several times to make register a touch.
Iphone on the other hand works gr8 when it comes to this. I believe it all boils down to OS, I really like Symbian and thought being able to install any damn thing on this fone is something which rules over iphone. The only thing I hate about Iphone is I can't do with it whatever I wish to.
Rest if you are willing to shell out the extra bucks for Iphone, I would say buy it.... I promise you won't be disappointed.
the 5800 touch cant be compared to the iPhone. iPhone has multiple touch. u can zoom in n out, double touch, single touch, scroll up n down and also sideways. 5800 on the otherhand can scroll up n down, and has only single n double touch. infact nokia has to go a long way to take over the iPhone
i got the phone sec week of jan and facing a prob wid the batt. wen i swtch of the cel @night it has 6 bars of batt and the next morning it has only 3 bars. also i do use the cel for net access like facebk and ebuddy. but for a very limited time of 15-20mins. also the plastic body of the phone makes it a bit too delicate
i bought 5800 xpress music from ahmedabad, though phone is preity good in look and functionally, battery back is also good, features are almost all made yet by nokia. I bought in 21000 Rs , but some seller is saling between Rs 19500-20000, which do not show transparecy about the price,... This phone is sometime switched off when i move scrol up and down....phone is so costly atleast related software should provide with phone.
Nokia 5800 is a cool buy, atleast Im satisfied. To get success it is necessary to have a touch screen which exactly matches iphone. 5800 has a really good screen which is responsive to even a faint touch.
10 days back, I purchased Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile handset. I am facing a problem. I downloaded Quickoffice application from "Download" option. After download was complete, when installation began, the message appeared, "File corrupted" and application didn't get installed. I tried re-downloading the same. But it always takes the downloaded file and starts installing and repeats the same message. I am not able to remove the downloaded application.
Can any one help me out?
