We show you how to turn off your LCD to save battery, restore deleted quick launch shortcuts, enable "No to All" function when copying files and stop accidental touches when typing.
Restore quick launch shortcut easily
Recently a friend of mine deleted few icons in his quick launch toolbar in Windows Vista. He asked for help and I told him to drag-n-drop the icons in the toolbar that he wanted. What he wanted specifically was the Show desktop icon and the Switch between windows icons. I pointed him to Win Key+D or M shortcut and Alt+Tab for switching between windows. It worked but he wasn't comfortable with it. So now I needed to find a way to restore the icons back. Luckily the old Windows XP trick works with Windows Vista as well. Here's what you have to do...
1. Hit Start + R as a shortcut to open RUN dialog box
2. Copy-n-paste the following command:
regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32.dll
3. This will restore the default Show Desktop icons and Switch between windows icons in Quick Launch toolbar. If not, restart the computer.
Nice article. But I prefer to turn off the notebook LCD using a much simpler process instead (at least it works on Vista!). If you click on the battery icon on the toolbar, then click on More Power Options, you can Change Power Options, or Create a New Power Plan. If you click on any of those (CPO or CNPP), you will be provided with a few options where you can save power. On this page, you can set a time for the display to turn off after a time specified by you! I would suggest creating your own Power Plan so you can switch to that any time you want to listen to music.
