Digital Photography: The year gone by

Here's a recap of what happened in the digicam world in 2008 and what we could expect in the months to come.

Zoom

Only the ultra zoom cameras seem to have benefitted here. The compact cameras, as always, have been stuck to a miserably low 3-4x optical zoom.

But, the inclusion of Optical Image Stabilisation on almost all compact and ultra zoom cameras is a welcome change and a great step forward. Wide angle lenses starting at 28mm were seen on many cameras and I'm sure these will be improved upon as well. Also, one can expect lenses up to 500mm pretty soon on ultra zoom cameras. This doesn't necessarily mean that all of them will turn out great. Guess we'll just have to wait and watch.
