Nvidia
is expected to move to 40nm process fabrication technology by second quarter of
2009 and the first product we ll get to see is GT212 GPU, aimed at enthusiasts
and performance-seeking audiences.
As
per VR-Zone.com, which has
compiled Nvidia s 40nm process-built desktop GPU lineup, this launch will be
followed by the recently reported GT214 GPU for the mainstream market and GT216 and GT218 in value
segment in the third quarter.
had already reported to manufacture 40nm GeForce GPU parts. As per the die-shrink theory,
smaller chip size gives marginally better performance at lesser power
consumption.
In
the fourth quarter, DirectX 11-capable GT300 GPU will be launched as against
DigiTimes report that has put the launch date in first quarter of 2009. With the
anticipated launch of Microsoft Windows 7 in the fourth quarter, gamers will
get to enjoy real fun over DirectX11 supporting cards for better performance.
Don t be surprised if Nvidia releases DirectX 11-compatible GPUs a bit later
after Windows 7 launch.
In
the IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) segment for motherboards, a new product
iGT209 will replace the GeForce 9400 and GeForce 9300 motherboards GPU series.
The
high-end GPUs built on 55nm process technology are also expected in early 2009. After the 55nm
process batch of GPUs, Nvidia might use GDDR5 memory standard over their coming
high-end desktop GPUs to be manufactured on 40nm process fabrication
technology.
With
40nm process-built GPUs and GDDR5 memory standard, competition between the traditional
rivals will start again since ATI is also looking to update their mainstream GPUs over 40nm process.
