iSuppli has released a report which says that, for the first time ever, notebook shipments have scored over desktop shipments in a single quarter. According to them, slowing economy is one of the reasons, marking a "watershed event" in the history of PC market.

The notebook PC shipments rose to almost 40 percent by moving around 38.6 million units while desktop PCs share dipped by 1.3 percent for the same period to 38.5 million units.

Acer was the major beneficiary in this quarter because of the spurt in the demand of its Aspire One netbook. They managed to sell 3 million units more than the preceding quarter, taking its market share to 12.2 percent.

Following are the top five notebook PC vendors for the third quarter:

1) HP 18.8 percent
2) Dell 13.9 percent
3) Acer - 12.2 percent
4) Lenovo 7.5 percent
5) Toshiba 4.6 percent
