EA launches Spore, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, FIFA Manager 2009 and Need for Speed Undercover through Steam
Electronic Arts has announced the availability of its leading game titles for PC through Valve's digital distribution platform - Steam.
Popular games like Spore, Spore Creepy and Cute Parts Packs, Mass Effect, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Need for Speed Undercover and FIFA Manager 2009 will be available though Steam for North American gamers. Is EA following the footsteps of rival Ubisoft who released the latest Prince of Persia for PC devoid of any DRM?
DRM nightmares were faced recently by EA post Spore launch which had much criticized SecuROM copy protection. Gamers had heavily boycotted EA's Spore and the proof lies in the fact that Spore was the most pirated game of 2008 despite of its launch in September.
Seirra Oscar, Valve forum moderator, posted that Spore will have only Steam's DRM and nothing else. Maxis Community Manager, MaximusCactus, also confirmed about Spore using Steam DRM. Adios to EA's failed SecuROM DRM concept heavily slashed by gamers.
Valve has already confirmed up-coming EA games like Mirror's Edge, Dead Space and Command and Conquerer: Red Alert 3. Gamers will rejoice this Christmas with the 'hot' Steam-based game updates.
Electronic Arts has finally released the long-awaited de-authorization tool for Spore, fulfilling its promise three months after vowing to ease off on the game?s DRM restrictions. The new tool lets gamers bypass the newly increased five-machine install limit on Spore by managing their own available ?slots? rather than relying on EA. It will also help ensure that authorizations aren?t unnecessarily lost to system upgrades or reinstalls. http://www.spore.com/patch/deauthorization
