Linux-based netbooks are cheap to own, but most of the users are not acquainted with the operating system, says Acer
You must be aware that Acer is leading the netbook charts. But do you know that it's the expensive Windows XP version of Aspire One that is selling like hot cakes as compared to the cheaper Linux version?
Henry Lee, Senior Product Manager of Acer Computer Australia, says that Windows XP Aspire Ones are outselling Linux machines by more than 9 to 1. That's a great margin and this is the scenario worldwide, he said.
Linux-based netbooks are cheap to own, but most of the users are not acquainted with the operating system; thus increasing the rate of return of the netbooks.
"What we have seen when we launched the Aspire One around mid-year is that the Windows numbers increased over time. Six months later, the percentage of Windows sales appears to have peaked and stabilized at a very high level," he further commented.
