Adobe today announced the availability of its AIR runtime platform for the Linux OS. The AIR 1.5 runtime was revealed at the MAX conference last month for Mac and Windows.
Now with the availability of the final version on Linux, its users will be able to enjoy a wide array of applications like Twhirl, Google Analytics Reporting Suite, Adobe Media player and many more.
Developers using Linux will also be able to create cross-platform apps for AIR with the available SDK. AIR allows web developers to use HTML, JavaScript, ActionScript and the open source Flex framework to create those apps outside the browser.
AIR 1.5 requires Flash Player 10 to work and it has been successfully tested with open distros like Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE.
Adobe has also published a small tutorial to install Adobe AIR Linux 1.5 on 64-bit Linux distributions.
