Apple's long anticipated Mac OS X 10.5.6 update has been released for Mac machines running on Mac OS X Leopard. Packed with several fixes and tweaks, the new update will impress MobileMe with the improved syncing of service to and from a Mac machine. Get these updates via the Automatic Software Update or download the standalone installers.

Apple's Mac OS X 10.5.6 beta builds reportedly were being tested by beta testers and the list of expected fixes, updates, and enhancements has been floating around on the web.

This major update for Macs has other significant improvements apart from that mentioned above. Changes have been made in the Trackpad System Preference; it must be after the new MacBook had Trackpad issues.

Enhancements have helped to fix graphics and performance related issues. Also, video distortion issues in some of the ATI GPUs have been fixed. Mail has been modified with a couple of small fixes and performance enhancing features.

The networking feature has better AirPort connection, especially when roaming in a large network area with an Intel-based Mac. The compatibility and reliability features related to the performance of AT&T 3G cards have been improved. TCP connections have been tweaked for better performance, and updates to ssh terminal commands have been implemented for compatibility with more ssh servers.

Print support for Adobe Creative Suite 3 application suite has been added due to heavy demand. USB-based Brother and Canon printers have been improved. Time Machine reliability of the Time Capsule has been improved, and the 'backup volume not found' issue has been fixed.

Read about other improvements and fixes, which have been described in detail, on the support page. The Mac OS X 10.5.6 update is available as a 373MB download for those running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5 and a 668MB download for Mac machines running Mac OS X or the earlier 10.5.5 version.

Also, Apple has released the Mac OS X 10.5.6 server update for Macs supporting the Mac OS X 10.5.5 Server and earlier versions of the Leopard Server. For Macs running Mac OS X 10.5.5 Server, a 469MB download is available, and for Macs running earlier versions of the Leopard Server a 883MB download is available.

It's advisable that you download the standalone downloads in case you rely on an intermittent Internet connection.
