Intel announced the availability of preproduction WDDM 1.1 graphics driver for Windows 7 for OEMs and software developers. The driver model is expected to be similar to Windows Vista.

This release complements Microsoft's announcement of not supporting hybrid graphics in Windows 7.

Microsoft is reportedly planning Windows 7 giveaways and has urged OEMs and software developers to start testing their hardware and software, respectively.

Intel's timely step will enable graphics card manufacturer to start driver development for shelling out hybrid graphics solutions for Windows 7 systems and thus avoid driver woes like those experienced post-Windows Vista launch.
