The netbook market is heating up day by day. Asustek, the pioneers in netbooks, is really desperate to regain the top position after Aspire One toppled Eee PCs to grab a larger market share.

The Taiwanese company has revealed that they are aiming to ship out 44% more Eee PCs in 2009 than the current year, which would be 7.2 million units in numerical terms. However, according to a researcher at Morgan Stanley, this target looks like a Herculean task for Asus to achieve. "We believe its official '09 sales target will be a challenge for the company given the tough macro environment on top of its high gearing to the shrinking desktop market."

We think Asus will need something special in the Eee PC segment to make it stand apart from competitors. Maybe they can take a few hints from MSI who are keeping market sentiments in mind during production (read: touchscreen netbook).

Asustek also aims to boost up laptop sales by 12 percent for the next year.
