The state-owned telecom service provider MTNL (Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited) is going to put India on the world's 3G map from 11th December, starting with Delhi.

Mumbai will be next in the line to reap the benefits of this 3rd Generation, 3G, services.

According to an MTNL source who did not wish to be quoted, "The 3G services will be commercially launched in Mumbai in the first quarter of the Financial Year 2009, April to be precise."

"The services will be initially made available in south Mumbai, airports, and major malls. Individual subscriptions will be provided only after 3-4 months of the initial rolling out of the 3G services in the city," the source added.

The pricing of the services in Mumbai is still being deliberated upon, according to the source.
