The coming months will see existing DTH (Direct to Home) service providers bring the much-awaited high-definition content to your TV screens. The already-crowded DTH segment has been seeing unprecedented activity with major players jumping into the fray in a relatively very short span of time.

Once dominated by Dish TV and Tata Sky, users now have Airtel's Digital TV and Reliance's Big TV to choose from. It is this very availability that is driving companies to offer value-added services with HD being just one of the options.

Tata Sky, for example, has already on offer its "Plus" service, which dishes out the standard fare with the option of recording your programs and viewing the content as the user pleases. The option to rewind and fast forward live TV was something unheard of this side of the planet - and this premium service has seen many takers in spite of being priced considerably higher than the "standard" service.

On the same lines, other DTH providers like Sun Direct and Dish TV are on the verge of launching their HD content as a separate bouquet for users who wish to go HD.

Media major Sun Networks too is all set to start its DTH services across India with their third phase launch at Mumbai. The company had earlier launched its DTH services in the southern states, the NCR and in the states of Gujarat and Punjab as well. Starting today, Sun DTH will be available to customers across the country. Sun has now dived into the DTH segment with major players including Dish, Tata Sky, Airtel and Reliance vying for the top spot.
