Christmas has arrived early, at least for the G1 developers. Google has revealed Android Dev Phone 1, the SIM-unlocked and hardware-unlocked variant of the G1 phone especially for the developers in many countries, including India. To be eligible for the phone, one needs to register as an Android developer on the Android Market site for a one-time fee of $25.

After the first step, the developer can buy the phone by clicking on the Purchase link. Google is however restricting the phone sales to one phone per developer account.

It is priced at $399 and will be available for purchase in 18 countries like US, UK, Germany, Japan, India, Canada, France, Taiwan, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Hungary.

The unlocked phone ships with a system image that works flawlessly with Android 1.0 and developers can build custom Android that works with the unlocked bootloader.

i believe that at 425$ effective price... it is quite a hefty amount... i think that there should be some low cost initiatives if google wants to actually get to the developers... and that too for educational purposes..
