Launches campaign against Chinese clones of popular handsets
The burgeoning sales of cheap "feature packed" Chinese clones of popular handsets available in the market seem to be giving sleepless nights to Nokia folks. So much so that they have now started an advertisement campaign to highlight the risks these cheap imports pose and "scare" off potential buyers.
In a recent ad that appeared in leading dailies, the company warned potential buyers of the grave threat these handsets pose to personal and national security. One of the facts being that, these usually have spoofed IMEI numbers and thus cannot be traced if used for terrorist activities.
The campaign emphasizes on the fact that, apart from IMEI-related issues, these do not pass the norms set by the ICA (Indian Cellular Association), and also have no robust service or support center network.
The now ubiquitous Chinese handsets are known for their rock-bottom prices usually selling for half the price of similarly spec-ed "regular" handsets. These are usually grabbed by people from the lower-middle class who are attracted by the features that these phones offer.
It's not hard to come across such phones nowadays which can put many "mainstream" handsets to shame with features like "live TV", and the most famous of them all loud (very lod speakers!). I have even seen one that had "7.1 channel sound". As for the live TV, all you can do is watch Doordarshan, the terrestrial broadcast.
i just want to add one character that you have missed out is that you can see doordarshan channel & at the same time if you touch a cable wire of satellite channels to the stylus of the chinese mobile having the feature of watching tv,u can view all the cable channels as per your maximum tv viewing channel capacity that the said mobile is having.
