Fed up of waiting for HTC to launch the G1 phone, Japan's NTT Docomo and South Korea's KTF have decided to take matters into their own hands. Nikkei, the business daily, reports that both these companies are well on their way to producing an Android phone for their respective markets. Docomo, who owns 10% stake in KTF, is said to be jointly producing the handsets with the Korean operator.
Docomo has not divulged details about the phone, but it says that it will be 20% cheaper than other smartphones, since they'll be saving on the cost of software development.
On the hand, Indians anticipating the Android phone might have to wait until the second half of 2009.
