The Pirate Bay, a bittorrent file tracker, reported on their blog that it had 22 million users across the globe. The Pirate Bay, where almost every possible digital file like software, movies, music, games, etc. is shared, has crossed last year's eight million user mark.
Though The Pirate Bay was criticized for illegal downloading in January this year, the site still managed to report two million new users this week. Could it be due to the US elections? Hollywood and the music recording industry are trying their best to put a stop to piracy, but the legacy of torrents continues.
These figures have made the folks behind Pirate Bay proud, and they're finally thinking of having a talk with the people at the Guinness World Records. Their blog thanked persistent uploaders and seeders along with leechers, forum moderators, and administrators.
However, in the near future, The Pirate Bay might lose users from France as the French Senate ruled in favor of an anti-piracy law; software pirates will be nabbed. This law might be implemented in early 2009. Having said that, don't you think India needs new IT and anti-piracy laws?
Piracy will only help entertainment industry, when u have got a taste of what real "quality" music/movies are you will prefer authentic source against a bootlegged copy. I have personally seen a shift in my buying pattern. There needs to be more research & understand on "Piracy" - I prefer to call it knowledge sharing. Though i dwnload a lot from Pirate bay, my buying of CD's/DVD's has only shot up! i see this phenomenon as a "primer to quality commerce".
i say sell windows xp or vista for rs1000/- i will surely buy it...n this goes for other softwares also...imagine....billions of genuine copies will b sold wolrd wide......hmmmm i guess is it so hard 2 imagine..... ;)
I feel Piracy is a Boon to us.
I would not have been Educated without Piracy.
If you like you buy it.
if the world stops Piracy. consider you'll be a slave to a rich persons ASS!!
New IT and anti-piracy laws? No thanks.. Maybe after reducing custom tax & stuff to lower the cost of imported softwares & hardwares.
PC Games are seeing a healthy reduction in price and hardware rates are always coming down, but I don't think the Government played any major role in that. With proper price, piracy won't be a problem.
