Features
The M1093 IS comes with a 1/2.3-inch CCD for delivering effective 10.1 MP resolution images. The camera features a 35-105 mm (35 mm equiv.) lens with a 3x optical zoom capability and has optical image stabilisation.
A 35-105 mm lens seems to be an 'in-between', as, when compared to many other cameras, it neither offers a substantial wide angle nor a good telephoto. Also, with many manufacturers moving towards a standard 5x optical zoom, the 3x zoom for this lens doesn't sound that great.
The mode button lets you switch between automatic Smart Capture, Program, Video and Scene modes.
The Smart Capture is essentially a standard full-Auto mode where the M1093 turns into a point-and-shoot to the boot. All other options are closed and there is no way to change exposure settings. But, it does save you the trouble of switching modes in the middle of action.
The program mode on the other hand allows you to change white balance, ISO sensitivity and a few other settings.
There are 22 other preset scene modes that are simple and easy to use and understand. It's only selecting the best one for the shot that seems to be the problem.
Video mode allows you to shoot movies at resolutions of 1280x720 (720p HD), 640x480 (VGA and HQ) and 320x240(QVGA) (all 30 fps). The videos are stored in MPEG4 format and have a limit of 80 mins continuous for VGA and QVGA resolutions whereas, HD videos can be shot continuously for 30 minutes. Video mode supports auto focus, zooming and image stabilisation (not for HD).
On an average, a 30-second clip recorded in HDV (720p) takes about 27MB of storage space. Going by these numbers, you can record about 25-30 minutes of HD video using a 2GB card with this camera.
The M1093 IS also includes on-camera picture-enhancing features like cropping, auto-picture rotation, digital red-eye reduction, blurry picture alert (digital image stabilization), and Kodak Perfect Touch. This model also integrates Kodak's Share button with its "favourites" feature for storing multiple pictures in an on-camera digital photo album.
The M1093 IS uses a proprietary KLIC-7004 Li-Ion rechargeable battery. It supports the ImageLink and PictBridge printing standards.
I/O interfaces for the M1093 IS include an A/V output (NTSC or PAL, user selectable), digital USB 2.0 full speed, PIMA 15740 Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) via cable or exclusive KODAK Camera Dock.
