Here's piece of good news for Gmail addicts. Google has introduced Gmail for Mobile version 2.0 for J2ME-supported and BlackBerry devices. Derek Philips, software engineer, Google mobile team posted about the same on Google Mobile blog. Go to m.google.com/mail from your mobile browser to download this application.
The new Gmail for Mobile 2.0 app has couple of improvements to make it faster, easier and robust. The new Gmail for mobile version supports multiple account management between Gmail and Google Apps accounts. So, you can switch between accounts easily.
Google has also added offline mail composing support. Hence, multiple drafts can be created and saved in the mobile. In case the phone is out of network coverage, the mails get save in outbox folder. Later when phone gets full never (function similar to that used for SMS). For faster mail usage, use shortcuts on QWERTY keypad based phones. Check Menu>Help for shortcuts.
The new Gmail for Mobile 2.0 is available in over 35 languages but however not all phones can be able to avail all features. Few features won't work on old phones, those without J2ME support and finally old phones with less on-board flash memory.
At least not easier - in this new version they have taken out the possibility of invoking the phone's menu on the log-in screen. So you cannot copy-paste your user name any more - you'll have to type it out every time regardless of its length.
Not working on my Blackberry Curve 8310. The progress bar freezes when the app starts for the first time after installation. ("Please be patient while Gmail mobile starts for the first time")
