New Macbooks Arrive in India

Apple today announced the refreshed range of MacBooks along with a 24-inch LED Cinema Display for India. And you shouldn't be surprised to know that the earlier price leaks of MacBook turns out to be true. The new MacBook, 15-inch MacBook Pro and 17-inch MacBook Pro are currently shipping and the new MacBook Air will be available in November. The new 24-inch LED Cinema display will also be available in November.

Just to point out the disparity, here are the Indian prices compared with the US ones (approx. converted into INR)

2 GHz MacBook - Rs. 79,700 (Rs. 49,634)
2.4GHz MacBook - Rs. 96,500 (Rs. 79,624)

2.4GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro - Rs. 1,19,600 (Rs. 99,550)
2.53GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro - Rs. 1,49,000 (Rs. 1,24,452)
2.5GHz 17-inch MacBook Pro - Rs. 1,62,600 (Rs. 1,39,392)

1.6GHz MacBook Air - Rs. 1,07,000 (Rs. 89,592)
1.86GHz MacBook Air - Rs. 1,49,000 (Rs. 1,24,452)

24-inch LED Cinema Display - Rs. 60,900 (Rs. 44,771)

I really admire apple macbooks. But, when I compare their indian price with windows based notebooks (even with sony vaio), then the thought comes - why should I buy apple? I get the similar specs on a much more lower price. And now these macbooks are even more costlier. I really feel apple sud change its marketing strategy for macbooks in india.

As per apple.co.in, the 2Ghz, $1299 macbook costs Rs.72910, with 4% VAT it shud come around Rs 75800... Where is the difference of Rs 4000 goin??
