After three years of hard work and spending $3 million on development, IBM has finally unveiled -- The Forbidden City Virtual World - a tour that takes you virtually to the famous Chinese imperial palace.

The Virtual Forbidden City world runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS based system and requires a download of 204MB worth data for Windows (XP/VISTA) and 275MB for Mac version.

The program is based on computer gaming software called Torque (from Garage Games) and is built with WebSphere Application Server, Tivoli, ESB (Message Broker), DB2 Viper, and IBM Bladeservers.





The visitors in the virtual world of Forbidden City can dress up in the traditional garb and take a tour of major historical places. Not just this, the visitors can interact with volunteers, staff, automated characters and even with each other.
