Asus' new Dark Knight Edition graphics cards EAH4870 and EN9800GTX+ promise to deliver extreme cooling and 109 % performance.
Asus has improved these cards and they'll be available with Dark Knight Fansink for quieter and extreme cooling. The Dark Knight Fansink, made up of aluminum alloy carries four heatpipes and covers a larger heatsink surface area.
Apart from that, these cards include Japanese Solid State capacitors, DIP Spring Chokes, LF PAK MOS and EMI shield. These components are expected to boost the card performance by providing better cooling with Dark Knight Fansink.
The Dark Knight edition of ATI Radeon HD 4870 series from Asus consists of three video cards- EAH 4870 DK/HTDI/1G, EAH 4870 DK TOP/HTDI/512M and EAH 4870 DK/HTDI/512M. Addressing the current graphics and gaming industry demand all of them carry GDDR5 memory of which EAH 4870 DK/HTDI/1G card has 1GB of GDDR5 memory! Looks great for those who want to game online and watch high definition movies with no graphic lag.
Rest two EAH 4870 DK edition graphics cards have 512MB GDDR5 memory each. Interesting part is that one of the graphics card - EAH 4870 DK TOP has GPU clocked at 815MHz and memory clocked at 3.7GHz (925MHz DDR5) for extreme performance.
On the other hand nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ comes packed in two flavors for the Dark Knight edition - EN9800GTX+ DK TOP/HTDI/512M and EN9800GTX+ DK/HTDI/512M. The GPU, shader, and memory clock performance is claimed to boost from 740MHz up to 775MHz, from 1836MHz up to 1950MHz, and from 2.2GHz up to 2.36GHz respectively. Say thanks to the 55nm process adopted by nVidia for the 9800 GTX+ graphics cards will save 3% less power when idle compared to an overclocked 9800 GTX. However, it draws 8.7% more power than 65nm 9800 GTX. Still performance may vary with Dark Knight Heatsink with heatpipes for better cooling.
