There's one word that would describe Secunia's Personal Software Inspector (PSI) "security". The update checker called Software inspector is for the 'security conscious user' who is interested in patching insecure software alone and nothing else. It is nice to see a specialized tool for this.

PSI does tend to get a bit scary as it very boldly informs you of all the "security invulnerabilities" in your system that need to be patched. It will inform you of the programs patched, insecure and that have reached their end-of-life. It also helpfully lists all your programs, provides links to the vendor's homepage, technical details, the installation folders and "Add/Remove Programs". Give this one a spin, it's worth a try.
