After Reliance, AirTel has also jumped into the fray and is launching their Direct-To-Home (DTH) satellite TV service - Airtel Digital TV, on October 9th.

Airtel Digital TV will be available in 62 cities in the first phase through 21000 Airtel retail and relationship centers. With over 175 channels, the packages will start from Rs. 2499 for a six-month subscription in which the channel price band will range from Rs. 99 to Rs. 424.

Airtel Digital TV will use MPEG4 standard with DVB S2 technology. The system is claimed to be HD ready and expected to deliver quality interactive content.


The set top box will bundle with a universal remote. The dish antenna is 20% larger than the conventional antenna for better performance during adverse weather conditions.

Airtel Digital TV also boasts of high set top box memory for new interactive applications such as iMatinee (cinema ticketbooking), iTravel (browse and book travel packages), iShop (tele-shopping), iCity (city information guide) and Widgets (stocks) along with eight screen iNews and iSports with 2/4 screens.

Apart from this, other features such as Worldspace Radio content, new games every six weeks and on screen account meter are packaged with the Digital TV.

Airtel has to show difference in their product and services to stand strong amongst existing DTH segment players like Tata Sky, Zee Dish TV, Sun Direct DTH and Reliance Big TV. The DTH segment in India is slowly firing up and is leading to stiff competition for the local cable TV operators.

finally i gave up and decided that i cant win as a customer with airtel. airtel digital tv is charging me for their mistakes. your people came and destroyed the signal and when i ask for the picture in tv you are asking engineers visit charges. naveen told me that if i pay first then later he will revert that money to my airtel account. nice suggestion to lock me up with airtel for some more days. i refused. as a consumer its my right to have the services because you are deducting my money everyday. Since 4th of this month , lots of complaints,calls. your response is only on phone....not in person. if i want a person on site of complaint i consumer have to pay for it. i understand your service charges,,,,but its your fault and why dont you send those signal migrating technicians responsible for this and sort it out? is 100/- service charge a very big amount for you comparing to the customer and the agony faced by him. or its one in the million doesnt matter much your business. can you answer my simple question reply this mail with just YES or NO? AS YOU MUST BE KIND ENOUGH TO RELIEVE ME FROM THE TORTURE PLEASE DISCONNECT airtel 3003897508 AND REFUND MY VALUABLE MONEY. regards chandra sekhar.n 3003897508 visakhapatnam. for your ref. my previous communications: .>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: Airtel Digital TV the very best useless worthless greedy lazy ************ complaint no 9690894, complaint no.9721743, complaint no.9835225 i am getting messages that the above mentioned complaints have been resolved whereas nothing has been done till now and now they are asking for one more week time!!!!!!!! 3003897508 is my customer id, my name is N. chandra sekhar customer since april2010. . june 19th2011 i had given complaint till 4th july nobody came, that dosent mean that they came on 4th july to resolve my problem. they came on some other issue saying that they need to change the angle of the dish as airtel is adding some 15 more channels for our f*****g viewing pleasure. but thanks to whoever recruits in airtel recruits the very best useless people in this region,, so they ruined everything displacing dish saying no signal.., went off. after couple of days after completely emptiying my badwords dictionary several times,,,, telling the same story to each n every m**********r i called. imagine its amazing. nothing resolved till now. and now they are asking for one more week time!!!!!!!! till now i am unable to provide a little entertainment which any family asks for. my 10yr son goes out to neighbour daily to watch tv. i argued n boasted abt this f*****g airtel with my local cableguy n now i cant go to him for a connection also. and EVERDAY SHAMELESSLY AIRTEL IS DEDUCTING MY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR DOING NOTHING. everyday i donate atleast rs10 to poor n i feel happy n satisfied... cant understand why i cant feel the sameway with airtel digital tv. hail airtel. you guys are really AMAZING. 24 days and continuing keep it up. .................... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dear mr.parul, "issue has been resolved and services are active" may not be the appropriate. services are active NOT because of airtel but i myself hired a private technician by paying 150/- and made it.( it was a verry simmple routine 10 minute installation process which your tech avoided). after our tele conversation a tech guy called up in the evening for the visit and said he will be charging rs.100/- as service charge.i refused to pay him as its airtel ppl who screwed everything here. again the local service centre called up and tried to convince me that the service charge is a must. finally i gave up, understanding tht its the customer who has to compromise, i agreed to pay. he came and when he checked the dish he refused to touch saying it has been changed,there was a sun direct dish instead of airtel dish.he called up his office and those guys told him not to touch that dish and he left the place saying sorry. so this is what happened. so what happened is your migrating team so called tech ppl came on 4th tried to change the angle of the dish,, failed came back the next morning with another ( sun direct ) dish changed the place and dish. still they failed to get signal ( i wonder how the local guy made it in not more than 10 mts) wrongly diagnosed the problem as setup box problem and assured a free replacement within two days. and vanished. So now i understood airtel. and called a local engineer and he made it. and as usual its the airtel sense of sadistic humor sent me a problem resolved sms whereas nobody from airtel resolved it. this morning a young lady called up asking whether problem resolved, same i told her and thanx to HER she reverted my 49/-.and thank you also Mr.Parul. so,, some guys created problem, i suffered, time, money, agony,phone calls, bad words, blood pressure, annoyed family and a lot more. thank you to whatever till 18th june 2011. i will be unwillingly associated with airtel till my money dissolves. regards chandra sekhar
