Every year we have a buying guide around this time of the year, just before Diwali and this time we kick off with some of the basic phones you can pick out from. These phones are for people who either just need to stay connected with their near and dear ones or just wish to buy a spare phone.
Keeping things very simple, all the phones listed in this article cost under or at the most 3K. The good part about this list is that it now features color screen throughout, except for the first one in the list.
Nokia 1110i - Rs. 1,345

The Nokia 1110i is a phone that's been around for two years now. The phone is still available in the market and is quite a buy. The 1110i is the only handset in the list that's got a monochrome screen.
This phone is light and has a battery life that will put to shame even the latest offering from Nokia, the N96, which doesn't possess enough juice to hold on long enough.
The specs below will give you an idea of why this phone is worth the little you have to spend to own one.
Bleu my214x - Rs. 1,649

The Bleu my214x is a modified version of the international Sagem my210x. Bleu has modified it to suit the needs of the Indian market. It has an FM Tuner for entertainment. Earlier, when we received this phone for review, it came bundled with table speakers as well.
The phone is quite a package at its price and if it still sells with those speakers, I suggest you grab it, especially if you want a phone in this budget.
Nokia 1650 - Rs. 1,759

The Nokia 1650 is like a colored, beefed-up version of the Nokia 1110i. This one can offer you similar talk time even with a large 1.2-inch color screen. 8MB of user memory has been provided along with its FM tuning capability.
The phone also substitutes as a flashlight. Overall a great handset at this price; unfortunately GPRS connectivity hasn't been provided to leverage the large color screen completely but the next option will do just that.
