Flatout Mode is your basic single player campaign. You start with an excuse for a car and eventually earn cash to buy better cars -- win races, buy better cars, win more races. There is nothing really innovative here; it's a standard single player campaign, sans the flash FMV video sequences. The level/track design is fairly simple although there are many tracks available, 39 to be precise. While racing, you will come across many different types of debris like burnt tires, fences, drums and so on. Destroying these also adds up your nitro, which is a good excuse to destroy everything in your path.
Flatout has many arcade game elements, but it does not handle like one. The cars are fairly difficult to control using the keyboard, which is a huge flaw, since not everyone will attach a controller to their PC. The game is a direct port from its Xbox 360 counter part, but the controls should have been optimized for the PC.

Flatout Ultimate Carnage looks more than just a simple Xbox 360-PC port. The game looks really good, the environment details, water and mud effects, as well as the car deformation looks really good. But the good visuals come at a price; there are some clipping issues like fences and other debris sticking to your car, more than once the frame rate will randomly drop and really mess up your game. Another major issue is the "Live" account required for online play. This is a major dud, you need to create a new Live account or use an existing one to be able to play online.
