Following Sony's recent launch of the new PSP-3000, now Nintendo is set to introduce its own revamped version. According to Reuters, Nintendo will unveil the new Nintendo DS version this Thursday.

The new DS version will have an integrated camera and music playback support, which lacks in the current version. The price of the refreshed DS is expected to be below $189 (in Japan), which is close to the refreshed PSP-3000 price of $180 (in Japan).

Recently, a snapshot of the Nintendo DS 3.25-inch screens was leaked over the Web and it is anticipated that the new DS version will have these screens. If this rumor does turn out to be true, let's hope that the new Nintendo DS has a touchscreen that's brighter and doesn't suffer from lower-battery-life-syndrome, like the refreshed PSP-3000., Also, it won't be too much to ask for a handheld that doesn't have resolution issues with old Nintendo DS games.

Nintendo currently leads over PSP in terms of sales. However, the new PSP-3000 does pose a threat to DS due to its lower pricing, and Apple's iPhone-iPod Touch is evolving as a mobile gaming platform as well, but that's a different story.

Nintendo certainly has a lot at stake with its DS version.
