Apple is known for its out-of-this-world UI on the iPod touch and above but the interfaces below aren't revolutionary. They're awesome and great to use but power users might wonder why they can't adjust the brightness to some sane amount for night time use or why they can't see what other files are on it.
They might miss being able to play a video without tedious conversion on their desktop or why it can't just read out the menu as you scroll through them. Rockbox is an Open Source firmware that can make the iPod do all these things and it's long overdue.

After three years in development version 3.0 of Rockbox is finally out with a bang check it out here if you have ipods upto the 5.5G, unfortunately with the newer iPods, Apple has gone to great lengths to limit what you can do with them but those of us with the older ones are still free to make the most of our media players!
