Microsoft's purported answer to Apple's 'Im A PC' ads

With mixed reactions (mostly negative) coming from the previous ads starring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, Microsoft is all set to unleash the next phase of its multi million dollar ad-campaign. Moreover, this time, there is no sign of Seinfeld. Gates though, is said to make a brief appearance.

Now, we're quite unsure if Seinfeld was "dropped" midway owing to not so enthusiastic reactions from people who did see the earlier iteration of the ads. However, the official Microsoft stance is that he had been signed for the initial commercials only - and could return in the future depending on what the reactions were. In any case, Seinfeld is out -- for now.

So what would the ads be based on now? While most of us do agree that the earlier two ads were a tad geeky (no reference to Microsoft or any of its OS anywhere! Duh!), the new ones coming later this week could just change things.

If initial reports are to be believed, Microsoft is working on a "response" to the legendary "I'm a PC" ads that Apple is famous for. Celebrities like Eva Longoria, author Deepak Chopra and singer Pharell Williams too will make cameo appearances in the new ads.
Heck, they have even signed up a John Hodgman (the Guy who plays PC in the Apple ads) lookalike (who is actually a Microsoft employee) to say, "Hello, I'm a PC, and I've been made into a stereotype." This would be interesting for us mortals because it is rare that Microsoft runs a cheeky ad-campaign. This has also been the trend world wide. The smaller rivals have always been in most cases much more vocal than their bigger competitors when it came to advertising. Remember the AMD v/s Intel, Coke V/S Pepsi (Later Pepsi went on to become larger than Coke!) ads?

Apart from the "celebrity" appearances, there are also references to everyday PC users in the new series. People ranging from scientists to scuba divers are seen praising systems running on Microsoft's OS and software. Ad-agency Crispin Porter and Bogusky is behind these new ads.
