The recent bomb blast in Ahmedabad has confirmed that terrorists are increasingly using the wireless (Wi-Fi) networks to send emails, minutes before carrying out the bomb blasts.
In order to counter this misuse of technology, TRAI has started examining various measures that can be undertaken to ensure maximum security with such networks. After the study is over, it plans to issue recommendations for authentication and maintenance of these networks, reports Economic Times.
Further, TRAI had also asked the government to direct ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to educate their customers on Wi-Fi security measures to adopt in order to prevent misuse. Even the security agencies have asked the Indian government to make password protection mandatory for all customers using Wi-Fi technology.
ISPs are of the view that customers are to be blamed for this misuse. This is being said based on the fact at all the terror mails sent before the attack were sent from hacked or open Wi-Fi accounts. And that there is nothing much ISPs can do about such a situation.
Instead of WIFI, terrorists will simply use some other way to claim ownership of any blasts - like dropping a note to a newspaper or govt office. I am ashamed at how our government can consider such foolish options. This does nothing to stop bomb blasts.
