Delightful news for Linux geeks -- Adobe has announced Adobe AIR beta on Linux operating systems. Adobe AIR is a cross-platform runtime meant for developers to create Rich Internet Applications that merge desktop with the web.

AIR for Linux currently supports Ubuntu 7.10, Fedora 8 and OpenSuSE 10.3 operating systems only; with GNOME and KDE the supported desktop environments. Additionally, a pre-installed Firefox is suggested since Adobe AIR uses Firefox's SSL certificates.

Major new features include support for system tray icons and menu support, keyboard shortcuts, localization, internationalized input (IME support), filetype registration, SWF and PDF in HTML, multi-monitor support, fullscreen mode, encrypted local storage, support for V4L2 cameras and printing.

Though all features are implemented for Linux; DRM and badge installations are not supported yet. For full details check the Adobe AIR for Linux release notes.
