The recently released iPhone 2.1 update has also been cracked. While Apple developers struggle to pack tough codes in their firmware updates and iTunes 8, hackers discover ways around it in couple of days.

The iPhone-dev team has cracked the iPhone 2.1 update and released Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Both tools allow jailbreaking and unlocking of first generation iPhone and iPhone 3G along with first generation iPod Touch.

A work around for iTunes 8 has been exploited which makes pwning possible. Using these tools iPhone and iPod Touch owners can not only update their firmware to latest 2.1 update, they can also run jailbroken applications. However, these tools don't work with the second generation iPod Touch. Beware of using this since pwning iPhone or iPod Touch is unauthorized and voids warranty; do this at your own risk.

Apple's iTunes 8 was supposed to be tough for patching but Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn proves them wrong. Yet another win-win situation for iPhone-dev team, their supporters, and of course, the iPhone-iPod Touch users.
