To bring us iPhone 3G along with 3G in December. Makes us believe in miracles

This is just a little hilarious.

There has been a lot of hand-wringing over 3G, or lack thereof in India. Especially so in the light of the iPhone 3G availibility: without 3G, the iPhone loses a lot of its allure. We knew that 3G was coming, it's the when that has been nebulous. Will it be end of this year, or middle of next, or sometime in between?

We also know that BSNL and MTNL will have the leg up on any other 3G operator, because the babus have dictated it be so. The big question hanging in the air was: will BSNL or MTNL bring us the iPhone 3G? The answer to that question appears to be a yes.

The Financial Express brings us news that BSNL will bring us the iPhone by December, along with its 3G service. Here's what Mr. Chakravarty, chief general manager of Calcutta Telephones has to say on this possibility: "On September 30, we will have a meeting of the circle heads where we may take a decision on making iPhones available to our consumers".

Is the sky falling, or is this a miracle?

Its good. lets not underestimate BSNL and MTNL. These are the two companies which have taken telecom to the remote areas of India without considering the ARPU. There service is as good as others.

So they will have a meeting where they may or may not make a decision about making iPhones available to their customers. The 'decision' he's talking about could just as easily be "No, no we're not and we're going to screw you over but it sounds nice to make the announcement to sell more iPhones"
