Swype will change the way we text

    print mail share

With the number of phones with QWERTY keypads, and indeed, no keypads at all, the days of good old T9 are numbered. Cliff Kushler, the inventor of T9, has now come up with Swype, a new kind of predictive text input designed specifically for touchscreen devices with on-screen QWERTY keyboards. Instead of tapping individual letters and waiting for an auto-complete feature to come to your rescue, Swype lets you "draw" out your word by pressing down on the screen, moving your finger or stylus over all the letters in your word, then lifting it up. A seemingly incoherent squiggle thus becomes a word, and if you watch the video, you'll agree that it's quite intriguing. Swype at work: Swype doesn't demand much accuracy, which is good for people with pudgy, touchscreen-unfriendly fingers. The technology will debut on Windows Mobile-based phones and Windows-based Tablet PCs, but there may be Linux and Symbian versions eventually. And maybe, like T9, it will eventually become a standard.

This is a good application/medium to enter information as u want it to be. However, here we will have to be completely attentive when entering information i.e. will log more stress on your mind whereas in the exisitng system u r casual in ur approach...and get word options. Here u r prone to more errors as ur dragging on the screen. Moreover, the life of the screen depends on the no of press/pixel of the screen so here u will be using more screen life. Moreover, here in India u have cheaper touchscreen phones by a number of brands that do not have so good touchscreens so it will be difficult to maintain the hardware. Also, in India. the weather is humid and the screen tends to get moisture and using this feature on touchscreen will make it prone to slippages and will be difficult to use.. lets c, wait and watch

Seems a bit clumsy. It would be great if you knew what you were going to type ahead but typing on-the-go would involve far too many regressions. ...But awesome ...stuff in any case
